Hey! If you're here it is because you need help with a map, are curious or just any reason. Well, we don't have time to talk so let's just start!
Map Making Guides
First, take your time to think of what your map will be about. How will it look? What game mode will it support? All those questions can be answered by yourself, simply take your time and think for a moment. You shouldn't make a map for the heck of it since it can (and mostly will) come to bad feedback. After you have your final decision, name the ID, name of the map and give a good description of your map! If you aren't good at writing, simply just make a 1-3 lines sentence of what your map is about.
When making a map, you should keep in mind what we had talked before, in this tutorial let's just pretend you're making a map to be approved. The level editor can assist you with a lot of things, and you can make your map look unique. You should focus on making it have an enjoyable game-play and look. If you don't know how to make it, you should probably take a look at another map and take inspiration of it, but like always: Be original. Don't make an exact copy if you're taking inspiration. And even if you do, it's much better if you just take the inspiration for the looks and not the entire map.
Also, make sure there are escape routes, or cover. But don't make your cover take a big portion of the map, and make sure it's not a camp spot. There should be ways to avoid it.
After making a portion or the complete map, it's better that you test it before making a public match. It can be tested via the level editor, and just a note: You probably shouldn't test it in multiplayer, someone will most likely be curious and make a match of it and your unfinished map will be played.
Here are a few tips:
You should always overlap walls
Why? Because then the map will be glitchy and also look ugly!
If it's a future approved map, don't put doors, barrels or clones
Plazma Burst 2 has no synchronization, and even though it's disallowed for a map to be approved with that.
For future approved maps, give the teams the same arsenal and 130/150 HP
This is for it to be fair and fast-paced.
Be creative
Because nobody likes the same thing all over again right?
Don't put too many texts, or just use timers to delay them
Players might not want spam, or will not be very fast at reading.
You should always walk around, jump around or even shoot and throw a few things to test your map and know if it's glitchy or not.
If you feel like your map is done, save it and publish it. Then go make your first match in a server, take note of what players do, if your map is too big or confusing, players will not know what they are doing and will probably quit.
Interaction Guide - how to be a good attitude as developer.
You have made a new map, and it's already finished and ready to be played! When you're describing the map avoid mocking people and aim using straight and memorable names and IDs. [username]-thisidislongenoughtodescribeabase is not as easy to remember as [username]-base . Further more, I'll show you a good and bad map presentation:
Oh noes! Somebody doesn't like our map! But is it really a bad thing?!
Yes and no.
If a player rates 1 for the sole reason of decreasing your LDR, then that's report-able under rage voting and can get the user banned.
On the other hand...
The player could've just disliked your map. And that's fine, because they aren't forced to like what you do. And everyone has opinions! You might as well try to ask them for criticism!
Criticism is not really bad. I recommend asking people who you don't know to critique your map so they won't feel guilty about harming your feelings because they could be your friends, their criticism may be useful at times which can greatly help you grow as a person and as a map maker!
Let's see how to interact with our fellow player!
PHSC replied!
Thanks to PHSC, we have learned that our map didn't even exist! How silly of us! Now thanks to this friendly interaction, we have learned one of our mistakes and can fix it!
You may be wondering... should I aim to be the top map maker?
The answer is...
NO!
The level developer rank is literally useless. It's just a number that doesn't award absolutely anything. You should make maps for fun and not make wars out of it for no reason, don't be toxic and just have fun making maps and interacting with other users.
Seriously, stop caring about fame, PB2 only has like 120 users concurrently.
